New PEUGEOT 108: so expressive!
During the summer of 2014, following a magnificent sales career – more than 800,000 units sold - the PEUGEOT 107 will give way to the PEUGEOT 108.
After completely renewing its offer in the B and C segments, PEUGEOT presents its new city car at Geneva and blows a breath of fresh air into the dynamic A segment, which now accounts for nearly 10 % of the European market.
Compact (3.47m long), light (from 840 kg), naturally suited to the city, the PEUGEOT 108 is available as a 3 or 5 door hatchback, or as a convertible, the 108 TOP!
Its chic and classy design, with precise lines, technological headlamps and overhangs reduced to the minimum, accentuates its dynamism, demands personalisation: everyone can have their own 108. Customers can choose from eight body colours, two of which are exclusive to the model, three fabric roof colours on 108 TOP!, a couple of two-tone colour schemes on the 3-door hatchback, as well as seven personalisation et ambiance themes.
The PEUGEOT 108 participates in the brand’s move up-market : the richness of the exterior is continued inside with a comfortable cabin, affording easy access, equipped, according to trim level, with a large 7’’ touch screen, a reversing camera, a starter button coupled with Keyless Entry and Starting, automatic air conditioning, heated electric mirrors, automatic lighting… Truly of its era, the urban PEUGEOT 108 is of course hyper-connected, as demonstrated by the offer of the new Mirror Screen technology.
Compact and elegant, it can also be practical with a boot volume that is generous for the category, variable between 196 and 750 litres.
Customers for the new PEUGEOT 108 will be able to choose from four power units, based on two 3-cylinder petrol engines (1.0 litre VTi 68 and PureTech 1.2 litre VTi 82), with well controlled fuel consumption and CO2 emissions from 88 g/km. For moving around in the city, its electric power steering and the quality of its suspension give it sure, lively and efficient behaviour in all circumstances.
New PEUGEOT 308 SW: the classy and spacious estate
The new PEUGEOT 308 takes its place at the heart of the market, in the strategic C segment (over a third of the European market). With more than 46,000 orders so far (to the end of January 2014), more than 40 % of which are for the upper trim levels, the new 308 hatchback, launched during the autumn 2013, has already met the ambitious objectives set for it.
From April, the new 308 range will be extended with a second body style.
Entirely rethought, taking nothing but its name from its predecessor, the new PEUGEOT 308 SW offers a strong and different alternative that meets the fundamental requirements for the category in terms of volume, spaciousness, modularity and practicality. Its future is to take its rightful place in the estate category, which accounts for 10 % of the C segment in Europe.
The designers and engineers have given it many strengths: an efficient concept based on a radical approach of weight reduction, dynamic design, innovative instruments and controls, a unique driving experience, innovative engines with well controlled fuel consumption and quality of the highest level.
Thanks to the new EMP2 platform, they were able to reconcile generous dimensions (4.58 m long), spaciousness and load volume (from 610 to 1 660 cu dm VDA) among the best in the market, with a reduction in weight of 140 kg compared to its predecessor.
Brightened by the huge 1.69 m2 glass roof, the refined and technological interior of the new PEUGEOT 308 SW is distinguished by the PEUGEOT i-Cockpit. Comprising a compact steering wheel for heightened sensations, a head-up instrument panel for ideal legibility of information, a tall centre console and a 9.7’’ touch screen for an intuitive drive, the PEUGEOT i-Cockpit resolutely stands out against the competition.
Combined with optimised aerodynamics (Cx : 0.28, Scx : 0.64) and reduced weight, the two turbocharged 1.2 litre and 1.6 litre petrol engines developing 130 and 155 hp respectively and the four 1.6 and 2.0 HDi Diesel engines from 92 to 150 hp, several of which already meet the new Euro 6 emissions standard, give the new PEUGEOT 308 SW particularly well controlled emissions : so, the exceptional PureTech e-THP 130 hp 3-cylinder 1.2 litre turbocharged petrol engine keeps its CO2 emissions down to 109 g/km, while the new BlueHDi 1.6 litre 120 hp version associated with a six-speed manual gearbox consumes only 3.2 l/100km on the combined cycle, equal to CO2 emissions of 85g/km - a record in the segment.
A new driving experience has been achieved: all of the brand’s know-how is expressed in the new PEUGEOT 308 SW through new lighter running gear and ESP of the latest generation making use of the generously dimensioned brakes. Combined with the benefits derived from the new platform (reduced weight, lower centre of gravity, electric power steering), they give the 308 SW benchmark dynamic performance in the C segment estate category, bringing together agility, comfort and road holding of the highest level.
Numerous technological driving aids, such as Blind Spot Monitoring System, Dynamic Cruise Control, Emergency Collision Alert System and Emergency Collision Braking System, add further to the sense of calm. Wider connectivity, Park Assist or the Driver Sport Pack are examples of systems that add to the emotion and comfort of life on board.
Still unequalled in the segment, Full LED headlamps are standard on the upper trim levels.
PEUGEOT expertise in technology: efficiency and sensations
In 2013 Peugeot further reduced the average weighted CO2 emissions in its European range : with 115.2 g/km (11 months of 2013), against 121.6 g/km in 2012, PEUGEOT takes its place on the podium in Europe for the cleanest brands - a remarkable performance considering that the product range is widely represented in the C and D segments.
The results of brand’s environmental policy can be seen, for internal combustion engines, in their constant optimisation (improved specific power output, downsizing, Stop&Start…), by the introduction of e-THP versions in the family of new generation 3-cylinder PureTech petrol engines and by the technological leap by the HDi engines to meet the new Euro 6 emissions standard.
So the new PEUGEOT 308 e-THP 1.2 litre 130 hp introduces the exceptional PureTech 3-cylinder petrol engine, a turbocharged direct injection version associated with a six-speed manual gearbox. Modular and compact, clean and powerful, this engine associates efficiency and high technology of the highest level. High pressure direct injection (200 bar) and the new generation high efficiency turbo provide exceptional driveability, from the lowest engine speeds. As the maximum torque of 230 Nm is obtained at 1750 rpm, it delivers the best low speed torque/maximum power compromise in the market. 95 % of the torque is available between 1500 and 3500 rpm, promising optimum operation in all circumstances.
For equivalent power and driveability, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are reduced by 21 %.
At Geneva, PEUGEOT is unveiling its new BlueHDi Diesel emissions technology, now fitted to several versions of PEUGEOT 308, 308 SW and 508. Uniquely associating SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) and a particulate filter with additive, it allows NOx emissions from e-HDi engines to be reduced by up to 90%, CO2 emissions and fuel consumption to be optimised, while still eliminating 99.9 % of particulates by number. The BlueHDi technology already comfortably meets the Euro 6 Diesel emissions standard and will be progressively introduced on all of the brand’s Diesel models.
First used on the 508 BlueHDi 2.0 litre 180, the new 3rd generation AISIN six-speed automatic gearbox is also available on 308 SW, associated with the BlueHDi 2.0 litre 150 engine.
This new automatic gearbox uses Quickshift technology, which combines faster gear changes with smoothness and driving pleasure of the highest level. Its design results in a drastic reduction in CO2 emissions: on 308 SW, the difference in emissions compared to manual gearbox is brought down to 5g/km (with the same tyre fitment) and places this version among the best in terms of driving pleasure and fuel consumption.
Another clear illustration of an environmental step forward and move up-market by PEUGEOT, the HYbrid4 Diesel hybrid technology, introduced as a world first in 2012 on the 3008 HYbrid4 then applied to the 508 RXH and 508 HYbrid4. With the HYbrid4 drive train, PEUGEOT has an offer that is unequalled in terms of environmental performance and driving sensations. The three HYbrid4 models have already attracted more than 36,000 customers.
With a combined power of 200 hp from the 2.0 HDi engine with particulate filter driving the front wheels and an electric motor at the rear, the HYbrid4 models deliver a new driving experience through the choice of their 4 modes (automatic, ZEV, sport, 4WD) and CO2 emissions from 85 g/km.
But to achieve in due course the objective of an affordable standard production vehicle with fuel consumption of only 2 l/100 km, PEUGEOT is turning towards ground-breaking solutions.
So, with the HYbrid Air technology, a key step towards this objective, PEUGEOT asserts itself once more as a pioneer. 2008, a model with an international calling, is the natural choice as the platform for this new drive train, which brings together a petrol engine and compressed air in a technology of contained cost, applicable from 2016 on cars and light commercial vehicle in segments B and C and affordable by very many on five continents.
2008 HYbrid Air combines two sources of energy to obtain the best level of efficiency in the various situations: compressed air, coming particularly from the recovery of braking and deceleration energy, assists or takes over from the latest generation 3-cylinder petrol engine, optimised at its best phases of operation.
The pneumatic part comprises a high pressure accumulator in the centre tunnel, a low pressure accumulator at the rear axle and an engine/pump assembly fitted to the transmission, the HYbrid Air drive train preserves the vehicle’s spaciousness and modularity and provides three operating modes for driver: Air (ZEV), Petrol and Combined.
Move up-market and exclusive driving experiences
On the PEUGEOT stand at Geneva, visitors will be able to admire another illustration of the brand’s know-how in terms of design and driving sensations. The exclusive RCZ R, a pumped-up version of the emblematic RCZ sports coupé, which has already attracted more then 57,000 enthusiasts, has become since its launch at the start of the year, the most powerful standard production car in the brand’s history.
Its new 1.6 litre 270 hp engine – a record for specific power in the category – meets the Euro 6 emissions standard and has CO2 emissions of only 145g/km, placing the RCZ R at an unheard of level for performance and efficiency. With an exclusive signature and the promise of intense sensations, its lowered ride height and19’’ wheels give the RCZ R an even more expressive stance; from the driving position with its subtly elitist ambience, the driver can make the most of the engine performance thanks to the specific running gear associated with a Torsen limited slip differential.
308 R Concept, an ultra-sporty concept car, radicalises the purity and stylistic identity of the production car. With its lowered ride height, wide tracks and pronounced rear quarters, planted on its 19’’ tulip form wheels, 308 R Concept makes no secret of its sporting nature and its conquering temperament. Under its two-tone carbon fibre skin hides the engine from the RCZ R, a 1.6 litre 4-cylinder engine from which the engineers at PEUGEOT SPORT have extracted 270 hp, a record for specific power output in the category at nearly 170 hp per litre. To exploit its potential in full, the 308 R Concept includes a Torsen limited slip differential in its front axle and oversized brakes.
2013, the year of growth in the force of the 208, which confirmed its position on the podium for B segment hatchbacks in Europe, has also been a year of superlatives for PEUGEOT SPORT with the competition versions of the heir to the PEUGEOT 2-series saga.
There is no doubt that the Swiss public will crowd around the 208 T16 Pikes Peak: 25 years after Ari Vatanen’s first victory in the famous American trial with his 405 T 16., it was at the wheel of the now legendary 208 T 16 Pikes Peak, the ultimate version of 208 (3.2 litre V6 bi-turbo, 875 horsepower for 875 kilos, 0 to 100 km/h in 1.8 seconds…) that Sébastien Loeb smashed the record for the 20 km climb in 8 minutes 13.878 seconds. A human and mechanical adventure that conveys the taste for excellence throughout a brand.
