Boasting a distance capacity of up to 117 kilometers (73 miles) using two in-wheel motors, Bedeo aims to transform diesel-powered delivery vans into environmentally friendly plug-in hybrid vehicles that serve fleet managers efficiently.

While there's an evident shift towards electric vehicles in numerous global regions, the process is still evolving. Numerous serviceable older cars can be electrified, thanks to advancements by enterprises like Bedeo from the UK.

Their innovative RE-100 Range Extender enables businesses with extensive van fleets to introduce electric capabilities. This tech permits drivers to toggle between the traditional diesel engine and an introduced electric system.

The core components of the RE-100 Range Extender include two in-wheel motors and a battery, all conceptualized and developed by Bedeo. These slim, high-performance motors take up minimal room, allowing the diesel engine to remain untouched. In addition, the 37 kWh battery pack's compact design means there's no need for adjustments to the van's suspension.

The Reborn Electric range includes the RE-100 range extended option and the BE-100, BE-250 and BE-350 full electric options.

In total, the system provides a range of up to 117 km (73 miles), making it ideal for last-mile deliveries. Bedeo emphasizes that the limited range is intentional, facilitating smooth and quiet drives in low-emission zones while relying on diesel for extended highway commutes.

“With the RE-100 we have created a new category of hybrid that not only meets the needs of the market but also accelerates transport decarbonization,” said Osman Boyner, founder of Bedeo. “While sustainability is, of course, a key driver, the end-to-end sustainability (whole lifecycle) of the vehicle also needs to be taken into account.”

Boyner acknowledges the reduced pollution from electric vehicles compared to conventional vans. However, he contends that discarding existing vehicles is imprudent. Furthermore, many fleet operators have invested in high-end features, like cooling systems. Bedeo's conversion kit presents an opportunity to upgrade these vehicles with a plug-in hybrid system.

Presently, the RE-100 Range Extender can be installed in large transport vehicles such as the Peugeot Boxer, Citroen Jumper, Fiat Ducato, and Vauxhall Movano. Yet, Bedeo's vision encompasses the conversion of all major vans down the line.
