China's automotive company GAC revealed the ERA concept at the 2023 Guangzhou Auto Show, showcasing its vision of a futuristic, hydrogen-powered SUV.

The GAC ERA, exceeding the size of a Cadillac Escalade, measures 5,413 mm in length and has a 3,132 mm wheelbase. This full-size SUV boasts a sleek design, achieved through collaboration across GAC's global design teams in Los Angeles and Milan. It features an aerodynamic roofline, a robust front face, and a fastback-style tail.

The exterior of the GAC ERA is marked by its simplicity, with a full-width LED bar that integrates headlights, sensors, and cameras above a body-colored grille. The SUV's profile is enhanced by suicide doors, aerodynamic side skirts, and large alloy wheels, providing a ground clearance of 244 mm. GAC has emphasized sustainability in its aero components, using marine recycled plastic and seaweed bio-based materials.

Inside, the ERA concept is designed to mimic a living room, offering rotating front seats and a convertible central console. The rear seating includes foldable extensions for extra comfort or seating space, alongside a tea table. The cabin features sunset purple bio-based mycelium leather, suede-like surfaces, and a white wood-style texture. The dashboard hosts a large Mercedes-style display, supplemented by a smaller driver-focused screen and touch-sensitive controls.

Unlike typical electric vehicle concepts, the GAC ERA uses hydrogen fuel cell technology, powering two rear-mounted electric motors that deliver 540 hp. It promises a zero-emission range of 800 km (497 miles), with quick refueling capabilities at hydrogen pumps.

The ERA concept follows GAC's earlier innovative designs like the TIME sedan (2021), SPACE minivan (2022), and Van Life camper (2023). While not slated for production, elements of the ERA are expected to influence future GAC models.
