David Lorenz, the founder of Lunaz, highlights the growing client demand for sustainable alternatives in luxury vehicles. This upcycled Aston Martin DB6 serves as a prime example of innovative use of recycled materials in the luxury car industry.
The vehicle's heart is a powerful 375 hp (280 kW/380 PS) electric motor, paired with an 80-120 kWh battery. This combination provides an impressive range of up to 255 miles (410 km), embodying both performance and sustainability. The interior of the DB6 Electromod is where Lunaz's commitment to sustainability truly shines. It features recycled and upcycled materials, including egg- and nutshell veneers. The dashboard, gear lever, and other components are crafted from a 100% compostable biodegradable composite made from food waste.
Moreover, the car utilizes innovative materials for its upholstery. The accent piping is made from apple pomace - a byproduct of cider, juice, and compote production - combined with water-based polyurethane and wood pulp. This results in a material that rivals the quality of traditional leather. Lunaz also employs two types of green leather in the vehicle. Real leather, sourced as a byproduct of the meat industry, is used for the seat bolsters, transmission tunnel, and parcel shelf, reducing emissions by 30-50% compared to standard automotive leather.
Additionally, the DB6 features recycled fabrics in the seats, door cards, and carpets. Some door card elements are made from a bio-based polyurethane fabric derived from corn and wood pulp-based fibers. This ambitious project by Lunaz not only delivers a modern driving experience with a classic flair but also paves the way for future luxury vehicles to embrace environmental sustainability.
