Strapped under regular shoes, Moonwalkers integrate wheels, electricity, and artificial intelligence to enhance walking efficiency. Shift Robotics claims they reduce the number of steps needed to travel from point A to B, allowing speeds up to seven miles per hour (approximately 11 km/h). Their battery charges in 90 minutes and supports distances between five to seven miles (eight to eleven kilometres).
Priced at 1,399 USD (nearly 1,283 euros), Moonwalkers aren't just advanced overshoes; they're a recognized technological breakthrough. TIME magazine listed them among the top 200 inventions of 2023.
“We knew we were onto something when we unveiled our Kickstarter campaign last fall and saw the great response we got from prospective owners, the media, and influencers,” said Xunjie Zhang, CEO and founder of Shift Robotics, and lead inventor of the Moonwalkers. “But never in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine that someday I would invent a product that would be named by TIME as one of the best inventions of the year.
