The PC138E-11 features a powerful lithium-ion battery and a specialized cooling system for the battery and electrical components, ensuring extended operating times. Komatsu aims to rent this compact excavator to a diverse range of clients across different regions and energy infrastructures, anticipating the growth of the market for electrified machinery. This strategy allows customers to experience the environmental and safety benefits of the machine while providing Komatsu with valuable feedback and insights.
Hydraulic excavators, particularly the 13-ton class, are recognized for their versatility in various construction sites, especially in urban development within confined spaces. Komatsu's introduction of the PC138E-11 aims to meet a wide array of customer needs and establish the market for electric construction machinery.
Komatsu plans to showcase the PC138E-11 for the first time in Europe at the Intermat construction equipment fair in Paris this April. Powered by a 72 kW electric motor and a 225 kWh lithium-ion battery, the excavator operates without emitting any exhaust gases, creating a cleaner and more pleasant working environment, even for those near the site. This feature is particularly beneficial for indoor operations and tight working conditions.
The electric motor also eliminates noise pollution, allowing the operator to communicate easily with team members during operation, ensuring safe and precise work. Furthermore, the absence of a combustion engine means no excessive heating of the surrounding air and significantly lower vibration levels for the operator, enhancing comfort and reducing fatigue, according to Komatsu.
