Siemens is working towards converting its entire fleet to be fully electric and CO2-neutral by 2030. Stefan Kurz, Head of Global Fleet Management at Siemens, stated that the electrification of their fleet is an integral part of achieving their climate objectives. The selection of the Volkswagen ID.4 was based on its balance of range, charging speed, trunk volume, and price.
The Volkswagen ID.4 is Volkswagen's first all-electric compact SUV, available in China, the USA, and Europe. The vehicle is built on the modular electric drive matrix (MEB) platform, allowing for a spacious interior. The ID.4 offers ranges up to 512 or 531 kilometers, based on the version, and supports quick charging up to 135 kW.
Armin Villinger, Chairman of the Management Board of Volkswagen Leasing GmbH, emphasized the role of company and public authority fleets in the adoption of e-mobility. The trend towards electrifying service vehicles among fleet managers is a testament to the growing acceptance and usability of electric vehicles in daily operations.
