Michael Mauer, Porsche Design Department's Vice President, states, "Every new sports car has to be very clearly recognizable as part of the Porsche product family and the model in question, but it also has to be perceived as 'the new one.'"
Externally, the new Macan EV aligns more with the Porsche Taycan rather than its predecessor. Confirmed by earlier spy shots, it features slim horizontal LED headlights and additional lights fused into the bumper. The light bar spans across the entire back end of the vehicle. Overall, a shift towards design over utility shapes its silhouette and proportions. The lack of an engine block leads to a more pronounced hood line; however, accommodations for a larger battery impact its width-to-height ratio.
Inside, hallmarks from both Cayenne and Panamera are present. It includes a 12.6-inch digital instrument cluster and a central 10.9-inch infotainment touchscreen with an optional screen available for passenger use. The dashboard features a uniquely shaped shifter.
Technical details share that this Macan EV will sit on a Premium Platform Electric (PPE), co-developed with Audi. It offers dual-motor all-wheel drive boasting up to 605 horsepower and 1000 Nm of torque. While this indicates a powerful variant, less potent versions will also be available. Weight specifics remain unreleased at this point.
Launch details target Singapore for an event scheduled on Thursday, January 25th, with sales commencing post-reveal—though pricing remains undisclosed.
As for the current gas-powered Macan, production is slated to continue for several years parallel to the electric version's release—catering to buyers not ready to transition to electric vehicles at this point in time.
