Last year, Tesla sent suppliers "requests for quotations" or invitations to bid on the Redwood model. The company is forecasting a weekly production rate of 10,000 vehicles, Reuters reported, citing two industry sources.
Three other sources confirmed that production of the electric car is expected to start in June 2025. All spoke on condition of anonymity. Tesla did not respond to a reporters' request.
In May last year, Elon Musk said Tesla was working on two new products that could have total sales of 5 million vehicles a year. "Both product design and manufacturing technology are head and shoulders above anything else in the industry," he said at Tesla's annual shareholder meeting.
We know from a biography of Elon Musk published in September by Walter Isaacson that Tesla plans to create a low-cost robotaxi and a $25,000 entry-level electric car. Both cars will be based on the same architecture under the internal designation NV9X. It is quite possible that the Redwood is one of these projects of the company.
