The GUSS electric machine uses John Deere KREISEL batteries which, when fully charged, allow for a full day shift without stopping.

The Electric GUSS herbicide sprayer is based on the GUSS autonomous sprayer released in 2023. It is a joint development of John Deere and GUSS Automation. The machine had its world premiere at the 2024 World Agricultural Expo in Tulare, California.

The all-electric and autonomous sprayer allows farmers to control multiple sprayers from a remote source. According to John Deere and GUSS Automation, the new product increases productivity, optimises and upskills labour, and enables agricultural businesses to achieve sustainability goals by reducing emissions and improving herbicide accuracy.

Electric GUSS dimensions:

  • Length: 7.16 metres
  • Height: 1.93 metres
  • Working width varies from 2.54 metres to 5.79 metres
  • The sprayer booms with adjustable height and hydraulic control are designed for row spacing from 45.72 cm to 55.88 cm

Electric GUSS is equipped with a weed detection system that detects chlorophyll in weeds and spot-sprays chemicals only where they are needed. This detection technology significantly reduces the total spray volume, resulting in material savings of up to 90 per cent, depending on weed distribution. It also results in lower operating costs, increased sustainability and promotes employee safety.

The Electric GUSS utilises KREISEL batteries, which last for a full shift when fully charged. The machine is equipped with GPS, light detection and rangefinder (LiDAR). One employee can operate up to eight GUSS machines from his computer. The GUSS series machines automatically suspend sprayer operation if people are in the area of operation.

The Electric GUSS will be available for order from John Deere dealers in North America later this year.
