Škoda has announced an all-new compact crossover designed and manufactured in India with the local market in mind. It has been specially made shorter than 4 metres to meet the criteria for receiving a preferential excise duty to reduce the retail price.
Škoda's Indian novelty is yet to be named. Škoda Auto India has announced the #NameYourSkoda campaign. The carmaker has shared seven registered names with the public, but is also encouraging customers to suggest their ideas. The final option will be officially announced later this year.
The as yet unnamed crossover is being built on the MQB-A0-IN platform. Two other Škoda models for the Indian market, the Kushaq and Slavia, are also built on the same platform.
Škoda Auto sees India as a key market for global growth. The Czech carmaker aims to sell 100,000 cars a year in the country by 2026 and become the best-selling European brand in India by 2030.
