Polestar has officially launched mass production of the Polestar 3 in Chengdu, China. By mid-2024, the new model will also be produced in South Carolina, USA. The 3 will thus become the first US-assembled Polestar model.
Volvo recently announced that it will sell most of its stake in Polestar, thus cutting off some of the electric carmaker's Swedish roots in the future. However, Geely (which owns both Volvo and Polestar) intends to continue to promote Polestar in global markets.
The Polestar 3 is a mid-size premium electric SUV. It is also the first vehicle built on the new SPA2 platform for battery-electric models. Initially, the Polestar 3 will only be available in two versions.
The base one is the all-wheel drive Polestar 3 Long Range (LR) Dual Motor (DM) with prices starting at $83,900. The second version comes with an optional Performance package for $6,000 that increases power output, includes 22-inch wheels, a revised chassis setup and a number of other changes.
