Avatr 15 was introduced as a promising competitor in the electric vehicle market against models like Tesla Model Y and Xpeng G6.
The Avatr 15 is described as a next-generation vehicle designed with cutting-edge technology from Huawei and power solutions from CATL. It features innovative design elements such as two-tiered LED running lights, cameras instead of traditional mirrors, and retractable door handles. With dimensions roughly at a length of 4,750 mm, it portrays a robust yet stylish fastback crossover form. Additionally, this model comes in a few variants including Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) and an all-electric version (EV).
Testing for the Avatr 15 was conducted near Yakeshi city in Inner Mongolia, known for its harsh cold climate conditions. This location choice underscores their commitment to ensuring optimal performance under severe weather conditions.
Avatr was initially established in 2018 as a joint venture between Changan and a prominent Chinese startup, Nio. Subsequently, Nio withdrew from the JV due to financial constraints. CATL assumed the role of the joint venture partner. Currently, Changan holds 40% of the shares, while CATL holds over 17%. The remaining shares are held by local investment funds. Huawei serves as the primary supplier.
The current Avatr model line comprises two models: the 11 SUV and the 12 hatchback. The new Avatr 15 SUV is scheduled for launch later this year in China.
Looking ahead, Avatr plans to target initial overseas markets starting with Thailand and aims to further expand into Central Asia, North Africa, South America, Southeast Asia, and eventually North America and the European Union.
