Subaru has announced that the new sixth-generation Forester will be produced in Lafayette, Indiana. This major shift will happen by the end of 2025, aligning with the company's plans to expand its U.S. manufacturing capabilities.

The current production at the Lafayette facility includes the Legacy sedan, which is set to end with the 2025 model year. This move will free up capacity for the increased production of the new Forester. Currently, the Forester continues production in Ōta, Gunma Prefecture, Japan.

Starting in 2026, Subaru plans to introduce a hybrid version of the Forester. It aims to integrate Toyota's hybrid system into this model. The hybrid Forester will feature Subaru's distinctive horizontally opposed engine design.

For background information, it’s notable that Subaru uses Toyota’s hardware from Prius Prime for its earlier Crosstrek plug-in model which indicates a continuing collaboration between both automakers. Japanese automotive industry often shares technology and platforms to enhance vehicle offerings efficiently.
