According to documentation from China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the production version of the Smart #5 measures 4,705 mm (185.2 in) long, 1,920 mm (75.6 in) wide and 1,705 mm (67.1 in) high. The wheelbase is 2,900 mm (114.2 inches). This makes it a full 265 mm (10.4 inches) longer than the Smart #3, which is currently the largest model in the Smart brand's lineup.
The production version has noticeably lower ground clearance compared to the concept car, and the off-road tyres have been replaced with more urban tyres. It also loses the roof rack and gets conventional doors. At the same time, the stylish LED headlamps and taillights have largely retained the design. The same can be said for the flush-mounted door handles.
The interior design is being kept a secret for now, but expectations are leaning towards a modern three-screen dashboard like the concept car. The seating arrangement is confirmed to be a five-seat configuration.
The all-electric car will offer four powertrain versions. The rear-wheel drive (RWD) versions will provide 340 hp (250 kW) or 363 hp (267 kW) from a single electric motor. In both configurations, energy will be stored in a lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery pack.
The two all-wheel drive (AWD) versions will get nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) batteries. They will combine a 224 hp (165 kW) front motor and 363 hp (267 kW) or 422 hp (310 kW) rear units. Together, the Smart #5 AWD will develop up to 646 hp (475 kW).
As a reminder, the Smart #5 concept version used Geely's 800-volt architecture. The battery pack with a capacity of over 100 kWh can be charged from 10 to 80 per cent in just 15 minutes. It was also claimed to have a range of over 549 kilometres (341 miles) in the WLTP cycle. This is probably about the kind of performance we should expect from the flagship version of the production Smart #5.
Smart, a joint venture between Mercedes-Benz and Geely, has previously confirmed that the production-ready #5 will debut in the second half of 2024. In addition to China, the model is expected to be sold in Europe.
