Just a few weeks after unveiling the ICE-powered Mini John Cooper Works (JCW), BMW Group-owned Mini is set to present a lightly camouflaged prototype of the fully electric equivalent at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. This event will serve as a preview ahead of the model's official debut this fall.

Unlike the JCW trim of the electric Mini Cooper SE, which doesn't include any performance upgrades, the new John Cooper Works E promises to be a true hot hatch. While Mini hasn't released specific details yet, the company has hinted at an "advanced electric powertrain," suggesting it will exceed the Cooper SE's 215 hp (160 kW / 218 PS). The aim is likely to provide performance levels comparable to the ICE version of the JCW.

The fully electric JCW E will feature different underpinnings compared to its ICE-powered counterpart, despite sharing styling cues inside and out with the lesser trims. The performance flagship of the electric hatchback is expected to have a sharper chassis setup, enhancing its signature go-kart driving dynamics.

In terms of styling, the bodykit closely resembles that of the JCW trim on the Cooper SE. Shared design elements include bumper intakes, a large rear spoiler flanking the rear glass, and a wide diffuser. However, the EV version adopts a less aggressive look compared to its ICE counterparts, which feature more prominent fender flares.

The prototype's red camouflage wrap is decorated with prints of famous racetracks worldwide, a nod to Mini's storied motorsport heritage. Additionally, the number 37 displayed on the rear side window honors the classic Mini Cooper S that won the 1964 Rally Monte Carlo.

The Mini John Cooper Works E prototype will make its dynamic debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed from July 11-14, 2024, showcasing its performance capabilities on the iconic hill climb.
