Tesla is set to deploy humanoid robots in its car factories starting next year. Elon Musk mentioned on X that the electric car company will have "genuinely useful" humanoid robots in limited numbers for use in its factories by 2025. By 2026, Tesla plans to offer these robots to other companies.

Tesla's robot, named Optimus, can walk on two legs and has a notable range of motion in its arms and hands. A video shared on X in January demonstrated Optimus folding a t-shirt, albeit not perfectly, mimicking human actions alongside the bot rather than performing autonomously.

Bi-pedal locomotion has advanced significantly, as seen with Boston Dynamics' robots, but Optimus still lacks a confident gait. Nonetheless, it has shown considerable improvements compared to early prototypes from last year and 2022.

Optimus is expected to handle monotonous or repetitive tasks on the factory floor, taking over jobs that are tedious for human workers.
