Police in London are cracking down on nuisance drivers in the city center. The operation, which started on August 2, has already seized over 60 luxury cars worth about £6 million ($7.7 / €7.0 million).

The Metropolitan Police, Westminster City Council, and Motor Insurance Bureau teamed up after residents complained about poor driving and speeding in the area. They've taken action against drivers of supercars and ultra-luxury vehicles from brands like Bentley, Rolls-Royce, Ferrari, Lamborghini, and McLaren.

Some of the seized cars include a Ferrari Purosangue, Lamborghini Urus, Rolls-Royce Cullinan and Wraith, and a Range Rover Evoque. The authorities have also made five arrests for various offenses including insurance fraud, using a phone while driving, not wearing a seatbelt, and careless driving.

Special Inspector Geoff Tatman from the Metropolitan Police said:

"This hugely successful operation has proved we are dealing with... crimes, such as anti-social driving, that is causing most distress to residents and tourists."

The problem of drivers using central London roads as their personal racetracks has been a growing concern, especially during the summer months. Westminster City Council's Paul Dimoldenberg added:

"People who think it is ok to use our roads as their own private racetrack late at night are not welcome in Westminster. The noise and dangerous driving from these boy racers is often worse during the summer, so I welcome these results from the enforcement work.

This crackdown sends a clear message to drivers in central London: follow the rules or risk losing your vehicle, no matter how expensive it is.
