Mahindra launches a new four-door version of its popular Thar SUV, called the Thar Roxx. The company will start taking bookings on October 2, with the first deliveries expected on October 12.

The Thar Roxx builds on the success of the original two-door Thar, which took inspiration from the Jeep Wrangler. Mahindra's new offering aims to provide more practicality for everyday use while keeping the rugged off-road capabilities that made the original Thar so popular.

Mahindra has made significant changes to the Thar's design to accommodate the four-door layout. The body is now stretched, with the wheelbase increased by 400 mm (15.7 inches) compared to the standard Thar. The overall length has grown by 443 mm (17.4 inches), making it 4,428 mm (174.3 inches) long. Despite this growth, it's still 357 mm (14.1 inches) shorter than a Jeep Wrangler JL.

The exterior showcases a redesigned grille with six vertical slots in two stacks, updated bumpers, and LED headlights and taillights. Buyers can choose between 18-inch or 19-inch alloy wheels with 255/60 tires. A two-tone paint option adds to the visual appeal.

Inside, Mahindra has upgraded the materials and worked on improving noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) levels. The cabin now features a standard 10.25-inch infotainment display, with mid-spec trims and above getting a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster.

Under the hood, Mahindra offers two non-electrified engine options. There's a 2.0-liter mStallion TGDi four-cylinder gasoline engine producing 174 hp and 380 Nm of torque. For diesel fans, a 2.2-liter mHawk turbodiesel is available, delivering 172 hp.

The Thar Roxx rides on Mahindra's new M_Glyde ladder-frame architecture, which the company claims offers refinement comparable to their XUV700 unibody SUV. The suspension setup includes independent double wishbones with coil springs at the front and a live axle with Watts linkage and Frequency Dependent Damping technology at the rear.

Safety features include six airbags and over 10 available ADAS features, providing Level 2 autonomous capability. Comfort and convenience haven't been overlooked, with the Thar Roxx offering ventilated front seats, a cooled glovebox, a panoramic sunroof, a wireless charging pad, and a nine-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.

Pricing for the Mahindra Thar Roxx in India starts at Rs 12.99 lakh (approximately $15,500 at current exchange rates) for the entry-level petrol RWD manual and goes up to Rs 20.49 lakh ($24,400) for the flagship 4WD diesel automatic. The entry price of the new model is Rs 1.64 lakh ($1,950) higher than the two-door Mahindra Thar. As reported by Autocar India, bookings will open on October 2, with first deliveries expected on October 12.
