Hyundai is developing advanced radiant heating panels aimed at improving the range of electric vehicles in cold climates.

Hyundai Motor Group highlighted the efficiency benefits of these systems, emphasizing that "range anxiety is a global phenomenon," especially since electric vehicles require significant energy for heating, leading to varying efficiency based on external conditions.

The new radiant heating systems are designed to keep occupants warm even when the air temperature inside the vehicle is relatively low. This not only ensures comfort but also reduces overall energy consumption.

Although Hyundai has offered radiant heaters in certain markets since 2019, the company is now focusing on more advanced versions. These updated heaters use a "film-type heating element with carbon nanotube material," which provides better thermal effects due to its broader heating area compared to earlier models.

Hyundai also envisions a wraparound heating approach, where warmth is provided from multiple sides. They have installed heaters under the steering wheel and behind door panels and the center console trim. This design allows the interior to reach a set temperature within three minutes, even in -4° F (-20° C) conditions.

These innovative panels were featured in the Genesis Neolun concept, and Hyundai hinted they are ready for mass production soon. For EV users in cold regions, this could reduce heating energy consumption by about 17%.
