The certified product is a telematics component called the VW Transceiver Module. LG designed it for Volkswagen's MQB platform, which is used in their cars with internal combustion engines.
Common Criteria is a big deal in the tech world. It's an international standard that shows a product is secure. Spain's National Cryptologic Centre also gave LG's device an Evaluation Assurance Level (EAL) 2+ rating. This means the device has strong protection against unauthorized access or interference.
LG's achievement comes at a crucial time. As cars get more connected, cybersecurity becomes more important. V2X technology lets vehicles talk to other cars, road infrastructure, and even pedestrians' smartphones. Without proper security, this could lead to problems like hacking, traffic jams, accidents, and data breaches.
LG isn't stopping here. The company plans to get CC certification for its V2X solution for Volkswagen's electric vehicle platform, the MEB, within the year.
