Mercedes-AMG has kicked off the final development phase of its new PureSpeed sports car. The company is putting prototypes through their paces on various roads and tracks to make sure everything works as it should before production starts.

The PureSpeed is a radical two-seater with no roof or windscreen. It's meant to pay tribute to racing cars of the past. Only 250 will be made, aimed at car enthusiasts and collectors who want something really special.

Mercedes-AMG first showed off the concept version of the PureSpeed in Monaco back in May 2024. Now, they're getting closer to the finished product. The car is part of a new series called Mercedes-Benz Mythos, which will feature ultra-limited models.

The testing team has already put more than 3,000 kilometers on the prototypes. They've been driving on all sorts of roads in Northern Italy and even took the car to the Nardò high-speed test track in Southern Italy.

During these tests, the engineers are looking at how all the systems and parts work together. They're also checking how the body handles different situations and fine-tuning the car's performance at high speeds. Quality is a big focus too - they want to make sure every PureSpeed meets Mercedes' high standards.

Mercedes-AMG has teamed up with Pininfarina for this project. Pininfarina knows a lot about making small numbers of special cars, so they're helping test the PureSpeed on public roads.

One of the coolest things about the PureSpeed is its HALO system. It's like what you see in Formula 1 cars. Instead of regular A-pillars, there's a curved bar fixed to the body. It's designed to keep the driver and passenger safe if there's an accident.

The car comes with its own helmets too. They're specially designed just for the PureSpeed to give extra protection and look good with the car's style.
