General Motors has decided to fold its BrightDrop subsidiary into the Chevrolet brand for the 2025 model year. This move aims to boost brand growth and widen the sales and service network for BrightDrop's commercial electric vehicles.

GM launched BrightDrop in 2021 as a separate entity focused on commercial electric vehicles. The integration will give BrightDrop access to Chevrolet's larger commercial sales and service network. This change follows GM's history of brand consolidation, as the company has previously discontinued brands like Pontiac, Saturn, and Hummer to focus on its core lineup of Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC.

The integration will bring changes to BrightDrop's product lineup. The BrightDrop Zevo 400 will become the Chevrolet BrightDrop 400, and the Zevo 600 will be renamed the Chevrolet BrightDrop 600. These vehicles will sport Chevrolet badging, a slightly revised grille, and the familiar bowtie emblem. The 2025 models will also get new safety features, including Intersection Automatic Emergency Braking and Front Pedestrian and Bicyclist Braking.

Chevrolet dealers will need to meet certain requirements to sell and service BrightDrop vans. This expansion significantly increases BrightDrop's reach, as it previously had only seven dealers across seven states in 2024.

Scott Bell, Chevrolet's Vice President, shared his thoughts on the integration:

"With the addition of BrightDrop to the Chevrolet lineup, we are combining advanced EV technology with the dependability and widespread accessibility that only Chevrolet can offer. This move strengthens our EV offerings and reaffirms our role as a leading commercial brand that enables businesses large and small to get work done."

BrightDrop vehicles will continue to be produced at the CAMI Assembly plant in Ingersoll, Ontario.
