The update will bring older models in line with the latest system that debuted in the refreshed XC90. It'll cover a wide range of Volvo vehicles, including the C40, XC40, EX40, EC40, S60, V60, V60 Cross Country, XC60, S90, V90, V90 Cross Country, and XC90. All eligible cars must use the Android operating system.
Volvo will send the update over-the-air at no cost to owners. The new software moves common apps and controls to the home screen, cutting down on the number of taps needed to access important functions. A new bottom bar will show recently used apps and include a switch to turn on outside cameras anytime.
The company has adapted the software for different screen sizes and shapes in older models. While the XC90 sports an 11.2-inch free-standing touchscreen, other vehicles might have smaller displays.
"Our new-generation user experience will deliver a significant improvement in customer experience and is an important step in our journey to delivery human-centric technology solutions to our customers. We'll continuously and seamlessly adapt the user experience to match the needs of our customers through new and enhanced features that are delivered through over-the-air updates, to improve your car – and your experience – over time," says Erik Severinson, Chief Product and Strategy Officer at Volvo Cars.
