The test mule stood out with its sky-high ground clearance, chunky Toyo Open Country M/T tires, and a wide bodykit that screamed "rally car." A roof rack topped off the adventurous look, while the whole package was wrapped in camouflage.
Audi didn't skimp on the modifications. The Q6 Sportback e-tron prototype sported revised chassis setup, new bumpers front and back, and distinct LEDs up front. Rally-inspired wide fender extensions added to its rugged appeal. Despite all these changes, the vehicle kept its sloping roofline and integrated spoiler, along with the configurable LED graphics.
The off-road beast is a far cry from the road-focused RS Q6 Sportback e-tron seen a few months back. Its tire choice brings to mind the Mercedes G-Class 4×4 Squared, hinting at serious off-road capabilities.
Built on the PPE platform, the standard Q6 Sportback e-tron comes with all-wheel-drive dual-motor setups and a large 100 kWh battery pack. How much of that carries over to this rugged version remains to be seen.
The purpose behind this muscled-up EV is still up for debate. Audi might be cooking up a concept car to show off the Q6 Sportback e-tron while giving a nod to their Dakar Rally involvement. There's also a chance they're gearing up for the 2025 Dakar Rally. Or, who knows, we might see this off-road version hit production.
Earlier this year, Audi released the limited-production Q8 E-Tron Edition Dakar. During the launch, they dropped hints about a more serious off-roader in the works. The Q6 e-tron could be the base for that promised vehicle, but we'll have to wait and see how things unfold.
