Nissan plans to add a new feature to its cars that will remind drivers to move out of the left lane. This change to their ProPilot driver-assist technology will start showing up in 2025 models.

The company wants to tackle the problem of drivers staying in the left lane for too long. This habit often leads to traffic jams, angry drivers, and even crashes. In many places, it's actually against the law to stay in the left lane except when passing.

Nissan's fix is part of their ProPilot 2.1 system. When it's turned on, it'll tell drivers to move right after they've passed another car. The system won't move the car on its own - it'll just give a friendly nudge to the driver.

ProPilot 2.1 can do some pretty cool things. It lets drivers take their hands off the wheel on certain highways. It can also warn about lane changes. Even when drivers need to keep their hands on the wheel, the system will still give alerts as long as it's working.

The 2025 Nissan Rogue will be the first to get this new tech. It'll cost an extra $3,200 and come on the SL trim and above. The new Nissan Armada and Infiniti QX80 will have it too.

Nissan hopes other car makers will follow their lead. Even a simple reminder could really help make traffic flow better and roads safer.
