Volkswagen of America offered the spicy condiment through its DriverGear website as part of its 75th anniversary celebration in the US. Fans quickly claimed all the available bottles.

VW shipped a limited supply of the ketchup, officially named "Gewürz ketchup" with the part number 00010 ZDK-259-101, to the US. The company created the sauce in 1996 to complement its currywurst sausage, which it had been making since 1973.

Rachael Zaluzec, a Volkswagen of America representative, explained the significance of the giveaway:

"This year we're celebrating more than a big anniversary of selling cars. We're celebrating stories, memories, passion, and all the fun, and unexpected things that make Volkswagen the brand we are today -things like our Gewürz Ketchup Brand condiment."

The idea to bring the ketchup to the US came from fans like Jamie Orr. He often brought back a few bottles from Germany as souvenirs and shared them at events. Many VW enthusiasts would bring back lesser-known 'German Katalog' items when they visited the country.

Volkswagen's currywurst and Gewürz ketchup have become cult favorites among the brand's fans. People often serve the chopped sausage in a bowl, covered with the spicy sauce.
