The camouflaged prototype reveals some key design elements ahead of its official debut at the Paris Motor Show on October 14, 2024.

The new R4 takes inspiration from its iconic predecessor, which was in production from 1961 to 1992. Photographers caught glimpses of round headlights and a distinctive window line with a kink before the C-pillar, reminiscent of the original model. The taillights also seem to pay homage to the classic R4, though a third side window remains hidden under camouflage.

While the original R4 measured 3.66 meters in length, the new electric version will be larger. The concept car, called the 4ever Trophy E-Tech, stretched to 4.06 meters. The production model might end up slightly longer than that.

Under the hood, the new R4 will share its AmpR Small platform with the upcoming Renault 5. Drivers can expect a front-wheel-drive setup with two power options: 70 kW (95 PS) or 110 kW (150 PS). Battery choices will include 40 kWh and 52 kWh capacities, with an estimated range of about 400 kilometers. The car will support charging speeds up to 100 kW and have a top speed limited to 150 km/h.

Renault positions the electric R4 as a companion to the Clio and Captur in their lineup. When it hits the market in spring 2025, initial pricing will likely start around 34,000 euros. Later on, more affordable base models could bring the starting price down to about 27,000 euros.

The R4 isn't the only retro-inspired electric vehicle in Renault's plans. The Renault 5 E-Tech Electric will also join the lineup, and an electric Twingo inspired by the first-generation model from 1993 will follow in late 2025 or early 2026, with an estimated base price of around 20,000 euros.
