Kia America will start providing North American Charging Standard (NACS) adapters for EV6 and EV9 models in early 2025.

Owners of 2024 Kia EV9, 2025 Kia EV9, and 2024 Kia EV6 vehicles delivered from September 4, 2024, will get a free adapter. Those who bought their Kia EV6, EV9, or Niro EV before this date can buy an adapter from a Kia dealer later on.

The adapters will let Kia EVs use over 16,500 NACS DC fast chargers in the US. Kia expects to open up this charging network to its customers on January 15, 2025.

Kia will offer three types of adapters:

  1. NACS to CCS1 for existing Kia EVs to use DC fast charging
  2. CCS1 to NACS for NACS-equipped Kia EVs to charge on existing CCS DC chargers
  3. J1772 to NACS for NACS-equipped Kia EVs to use existing Level 2 AC chargers

In early 2025, Kia plans to roll out new features for its EV owners. After a vehicle software upgrade, customers will be able to use the Kia Access app to find and pay for charging. They'll be able to search for charge points through their EV's infotainment screen or a compatible smartphone. The app will also show charger availability, status, and pricing.
