The E-408 is built on Peugeot's EMP2 corporate platform. It measures 4.69 meters in length, 1.85 meters in width, and stands 1.49 meters tall, with a wheelbase of 2.79 meters. Compared to its smaller sibling, the E-308, the E-408 is 33 cm longer, 5 cm taller, and has an 11 cm longer wheelbase.
The E-408 packs a punch with its front-wheel-drive system. The car's permanent magnet synchronous motor, manufactured by the Stellantis-Nidec joint venture in Trémery, delivers 157 kW of power and 345 Nm of torque. It's paired with a single-speed gearbox produced by Stellantis in Valenciennes.
The E-408's battery is a key highlight. It boasts a net capacity of 58.2 kWh, which is about 7 kWh more than the E-308. The battery uses NMC811 chemistry, consisting of 80% nickel, 10% manganese, and 10% cobalt, arranged in 18 modules. While Peugeot hasn't disclosed the battery manufacturer, it's worth noting that Stellantis is involved in the ACC battery joint venture with Mercedes and TotalEnergies/Saft.
This powertrain configuration allows the E-408 to achieve a WLTP range of 453 km, surpassing the E-308 by 34 km. The car's power consumption is rated at 15.2 kWh/100 km under WLTP conditions.
When it comes to charging, the E-408 can handle up to 11 kW on AC and 120 kW on DC. With DC fast charging, the battery can go from 20% to 80% in about 30 minutes, charging at a rate of approximately 1.2 kWh per minute.
The E-408 offers three levels of energy recuperation, controlled by steering wheel paddles. The brake lights automatically activate at the last two levels. Drivers can choose from three driving modes: Eco (up to 125 kW and 270 Nm), Normal (up to 140 kW and 300 Nm), and Sport (full 157 kW and 345 Nm). The Sport mode kicks in automatically during acceleration.
The new Peugeot E-408 is available in two versions: Allure and GT. Standard equipment includes a heat pump, steering wheel heating, and seat heating, enhancing comfort in various weather conditions. The E-408 also offers ample storage, with a trunk capacity of 471 liters, expandable to 1,545 liters with the seats folded down.
Prices have not yet been announced. The new model completes the range of electric vehicles, according to the Lion brand. This now includes twelve electric cars and light commercial vehicles.
