The all-electric sedan exceeded its official WLTP range of 709 kilometres by 85 kilometres. The team, led by long-distance driving expert Felix Egolf, drove for 15 hours and 42 minutes at an average speed of 51 km/h.
The test took place in the Zug area south of Zurich. Drivers followed an 81-kilometre circuit that included main roads, motorways, and hilly country roads. When the car finally came to a stop, it still showed 2 kilometres of range left.
The ID.7 Pro S used for the test came equipped with a comfort package, assist systems, and a heat pump. Despite these extras, which typically reduce range, the car still managed to outperform its official WLTP range of 700 kilometres.
The ID.7 Pro S achieved an average consumption of 10.3 kWh/100 km during the test. That's significantly better than its official WLTP rating of 13.6 kWh/100 km. To put it in perspective, that's equivalent to a diesel car using just 1.1 litres per 100 km.
Volkswagen credits the ID.7 Pro S's performance to its new efficiency drive and excellent aerodynamics. The car has a drag coefficient of 0.23, which helps it slip through the air with minimal resistance.
The ID.7 Pro S also boasts impressive charging capabilities. At a 200 kW fast-charging station, it can add 244 kilometres of range in just 10 minutes. Charging from 10% to 80% takes only 26 minutes.
