The iconic brake manufacturer just acquired Öhlins from parent company Tenneco for $405 million, according to a Brembo statement.

Öhlins Racing specializes in high-performance suspension parts for cars and motorcycles, used both on the street and in racing. The company started in 1976 and has its main office in Stockholm. It makes products in Sweden and Thailand, where it also does research.

Öhlins has about 500 employees and runs distribution and testing centers in Sweden, Thailand, Germany, and the United States.

Tom Wittenschlaeger, the CEO of Öhlins Racing, shared his thoughts on the deal:

"As we join forces with Brembo, we are excited to unlock new growth opportunities and leverage our respective strengths and assets to drive innovation and deliver even greater value to our customers and employees."

Matteo Tiraboschi, Brembo's Executive Chairman, explained why they wanted to buy Öhlins:

"Öhlins is a strong fit for Brembo. It is a world-renowned brand, with a solid business and an unrivaled reputation, both on the racetrack and the road. We welcome Öhlins to our Group as a great opportunity to expand our offerings for the automotive market. With this addition, we take another step forward in our strategy to provide integrated intelligent solutions to our customers, leveraging synergies across key technologies in the vehicle's corner."

Brembo has been growing its business lately. In 2021, they bought SBS Friction to add motorcycle and ATV brake parts to what they offer. Last year, they said they'd build a new factory in Thailand.

The deal to buy Öhlins still needs to get approved by regulators. If everything goes as planned, Brembo will finish buying Öhlins in 2025.

It's not clear yet if Öhlins will keep all its workers or change what products it makes after Brembo takes over. These details might come out later as the two companies start working together.
