The exterior design of the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe looks very similar to the 1 Series. It sports a wide kidney grille below the headlights, with an innovative structure of vertical and diagonal bars inside. A large lower air intake completes the front-end look.
LED headlights come standard, featuring vertical elements for daytime running lights and direction indicators. Buyers can opt for adaptive LED headlights with glare-free matrix high beam and cornering lights.
From the side, the new 2 Series Gran Coupe shows off a long bonnet, short overhangs, and a gently flowing roofline. BMW has added a new touch - a number on the rear side window. The rear end looks more modern and elegant, with a generous surface structure, flat lights, and a beading that nods to its predecessor.
Inside, the cabin shares many similarities with the 1 Series. It comes equipped with the BMW Operating System 9, the latest generation featuring QuickSelect. The system offers digital services like video streaming and in-car gaming, controlled by touch and voice commands.
The interior boasts dynamically backlit trim made of milled aluminum, a BMW Curved Display, and a redesigned gear selector switch. There's plenty of space overall, with rear seats that are quite comfortable for this class. Taller passengers might find the headroom slightly tight due to the lower roofline.
Up front, newly designed sports seats hug you without feeling too tight. They come standard with seat heating and electric adjustment options.
BMW offers several models in the 2 Series Gran Coupe range. The top-tier M235 xDrive Gran Coupé packs a 221 kW (300 hp) four-cylinder engine, sprinting from 0-100 km/h in 4.9 seconds. It comes standard with adaptive sports suspension, sports steering, and intelligent all-wheel drive. An optional M technology package adds racetrack-oriented performance features like lightweight construction measures, 19-inch forged alloy wheels, and a compound brake system.
Other options include the BMW 220 Gran Coupé with a 125 kW (170 hp) four-cylinder petrol engine, the 220d Gran Coupé with a 120 kW (163 hp) four-cylinder diesel, and the 218d Gran Coupé sporting a 110 kW (150 hp) four-cylinder diesel.
The increased rigidity of the body structure and chassis connection should help the new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé to achieve improved agility, steering precision and cornering dynamics. The further development of the chassis includes, among other things, optimized kinematics and new shock absorber technology. The standard equipment also includes wheel slip limitation close to the actuator, an integrated braking system and 17-inch light alloy wheels.
Advanced systems for partially automated driving and parking are also on board. The standard equipment includes the Driving Assistant including front collision warning, lane departure warning, exit warning and traffic sign recognition as well as the Parking Assistant including reversing assistant. The steering and lane guidance assistant as well as the automatic Speed Limit Assist and route control are available as options.
The refreshed BMW 2 Series Coupé will be produced at the BMW Group’s plant in Leipzig, with the market launch starting in March 2025. The manufacturer has not yet commented on the prices.
