Volkswagen might bring its electric liftback, the ID.7, to America next year. The company's decision will depend on how much customers want it.

Pablo Di Si, the CEO of Volkswagen Group of America, told Auto News, "We're ready to launch the ID.7 as long as there's consumer demand. We'll probably launch it next year." But he added, "We haven't decided yet."

The ID.7 was supposed to come out in the third quarter of 2024. But in May, Volkswagen put those plans on hold. The company saw that the market was changing. People weren't buying as many electric cars as expected, and they seemed to prefer crossovers.

This electric car is about the same size as a Passat. It will come in two versions: Pro S and Pro S Plus. The EV has some cool features like illuminated logos, a power liftgate, a panoramic glass roof, and 19-inch wheels. Inside, you'll find a heated steering wheel, heated front seats, and a big 15-inch screen for the infotainment system.

The ID.7 uses an 82 kWh battery pack. You can get it with rear-wheel drive that gives you 282 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque. There's also an all-wheel drive option with 335 horsepower.

Volkswagen will build both the European and North American versions of the ID.7 in Emden, Germany. This could affect whether the car qualifies for U.S. tax credits under current electric vehicle policies.
