Kia's new electric hatchback, the EV2, has been spotted on public roads for the first time. The car company plans to launch this affordable electric vehicle in Europe by 2026.

The EV2 will be a city car with a high-riding hatchback body style. Its boxy silhouette reminds us of the Kia Soul, while the front lights echo the larger EV9 with their column-like design. Kia's designers have given the EV2 a fresh take on the company's 'Tiger grille' digital face, blending sharp lines with smooth surfaces as part of their 'opposites united' design strategy.

Kia will build the EV2 at its plant in Slovakia, aiming for a price tag of around 30,000 euro (£25,000). The car will use the E-GMP platform, which it shares with other Kia models like the EV3, EV6, and EV9. While a single-motor powertrain is certain, there's no word yet on whether a twin-motor setup will be offered due to packaging challenges and the car's urban focus.

The EV2 will enter a competitive market alongside rivals like the Renault 5, Vauxhall Corsa Electric, and Mini Cooper Electric. Kia also plans to offer a GT version of the EV2, banking on the popularity of performance cars among European buyers.
