Hyundai IONIQ 5 has entered the Guinness Book of World Records as the electric vehicle that has travelled the highest altitude difference.
The expedition was organised by Hyundai Motor India Limited in collaboration with the Evo India team. The route started from the highest vehicular point in the country - Umling La at an altitude of 5,799 metres above sea level. The finishing point is Kuttanad in Kerala, which is three metres below sea level. The total altitude difference was 5,802 metres.
The journey took 14 days and covered over 4,900 kilometres of varied climatic conditions. The IONIQ 5 traversed the icy mountain passes of the Himalayas, steep descents and the humid coastal zone of Kerala.
Hyundai's press release states that this instance of the Hyundai IONIQ 5 is equipped with a 72.6 kWh battery. Although there is no other information, it is known that such a battery was installed on the 2021-2022 version of the Long Range (the updated IONIQ 5 is equipped with a larger capacity battery). Range in the WLTP cycle is 451-481 km, depending on conditions. The 217 hp engine allows acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.4 seconds.
