A page dedicated to the hybrid Forester has appeared on Subaru's official US website. The new version will be on sale by mid-2025.

The new Forester Hybrid will retain the Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system, but will be more efficient and environmentally friendly than its petrol counterpart. The hybrid will get the self-charging setup that first debuted in the Crosstrek Hybrid in Japan in October 2024.

The system combines a 2.5-litre 158bhp opposition four-cylinder engine with two electric motors. One of them, the "traction" motor, adds 118bhp for propulsion, while the other works as a generator. The electric motors are connected to a 1.1 kWh lithium-ion battery, which won't provide much driving range on electric traction, but will help reduce fuel consumption.

Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid

This hybrid system is thanks to a collaboration between Subaru and Toyota. The manufacturer claims it is 20 per cent more efficient than Subaru's previous e-Boxer system, which was available in Japan, Europe and other regions but never made it to the US.

Visually, the hybrid will be virtually identical to the standard Forester with an internal combustion engine, except for a small Hybrid badge on the tailgate.

For the standard 2025 Forester, pricing starts at $31,115 (including delivery). Obviously, the hybrid version will be more expensive, but pricing has not been officially announced at this time. Subaru is already accepting applications from interested buyers on its website.
