Travelling in the new roofless Volkswagen will end in mid-2027 when Volkswagen phases out the T-Roc Cabriolet, a point stated in an agreement between VW brand management and the IG Metall union that was reached just before Christmas at the end of 2024.
The T-Roc was initially a bit of an odd choice for a convertible, as the base model is a crossover. Nevertheless, it is the best-selling open-top car on the German market. There were 7,718 new registrations in 2024, more than the Mini Cabrio.
The future of the Osnabrück plant, where the T-Roc Cabrio will be produced until 2027, remains uncertain. Volkswagen is "considering options for alternative utilisation of the site".
The T-Roc Cabriolet is not the only VW model about to be retired. As early as 2026, the VW Arteon Shooting Brake will be phased out of production
There were rumours that even the Polo might be phased out to make way for the electric ID.2, but the petrol-powered small car remains for now. Its cancellation has been postponed following the relaxation of Euro-7 emission standards. This means the Polo could survive until 2030. The hatchback is now being produced in South Africa.
