Cummins announced the industry's first turbocharger specifically designed for hydrogen internal combustion engines (H2-ICE).

The new Cummins turbocharger is designed to maintain high flow rates and provide the necessary boost pressure, which is critical for efficient hydrogen engine operation. It also helps reduce emissions.

Exact details of the design were not disclosed, but Cummins says it has overcome significant challenges associated with using hydrogen as a fuel. These include adapting aerodynamics to meet changing lambda requirements, managing increased water production from hydrogen combustion, and mitigating the metallurgical effects of the fuel.

In Europe, hydrogen-fuelled internal combustion engines have zero-emission status, so they meet the future stringent Euro VII regulations.
