A nearly new 1991 Volkswagen Passat B3 was auctioned off at Collecting Cars in the UK. The sedan has only 791 miles (1,273 km) of mileage, making it a real time capsule.

The car belonged to two owners, but judging by the mileage, neither of them was in a hurry to use it. The GL sedan looks modest, but it has a leather interior and a cassette recorder - a classic for the early 90s.

The Volkswagen Passat B3 has gained a reputation as one of the most reliable cars of its time, and this example only confirms this status. In March 2025, it successfully passed the technical inspection.

Under the hood is a 2.0-litre petrol engine paired with a 5-speed manual. Minimal electronics: manual windows, no airbags, but electric mirrors.

The package includes:

  • 15-inch alloy wheels
  • Rear armrest and headrests
  • Original service book
  • Original Volkswagen spare wheel and jack

The most significant repair - in 2019, at 903 km, the timing belt was replaced. The rest of the parts are factory.

The auction ends on 19 March, and so far the maximum bid is £6,700 (approximately $8,700 or €8,000).
