Yamaha has started selling the FZ-S Fi Hybrid model in India, the country's first motorbike in the under 150cc class with hybrid technology. It is designed to improve dynamic performance and fuel efficiency.

Externally, the FZ-S Fi Hybrid is almost identical to the regular version, but there are a few features. In particular, updated graphics on the fairings and a new location of the front turn signals - they are now located on the side panels of the tank. The bike is available in two colours, Racing Blue and Cyan Metallic Grey.

Under the tank is a 149cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine that is now OBD-2B compliant. It produces 12.4bhp and 13.3Nm - the same as the non-hybrid version. The difference: the FZ-S Fi Hybrid now has a starter generator, which:

  • Assists the engine when starting - adds a little torque for sharper acceleration.
  • Activates the start-stop system - the engine stops when you stop and starts instantly when you release the clutch lever.
  • It helps to reduce fuel consumption.

From minuses - hybrid version is a bit heavier: its curb weight is 138 kg, which is 1 kg more than usual FZ-S Fi.

Yamaha has also updated the instrument cluster. It is now a 4.2-inch TFT colour display that, displays all the basic information and connects to a smartphone via the Y-Connect app. Google Maps navigation tips can be displayed on the display, as well as call and message notifications.

Structurally, the motorbike has not changed:

  • Telescopic fork at the front and adjustable rear mono shock absorber.
  • Disc brakes: 282mm front, 220mm rear + single channel ABS.
  • Wheels are 17-inch with 100mm (front) and 140mm (rear) tyres.
  • Traction Control and LED lighting are available.

The Yamaha FZ-S Fi Hybrid is priced at Rs 144,800 (≈ $1,680), which is Rs 14,100 (≈ $163) more expensive than the standard model.
