South America will get its own version of the second-generation VW Amarok pick-up truck, unrelated to the Amarok already produced in South Africa on the Ford Ranger platform.

The announcement of the new Volkswagen Amarok for South America is accompanied by a sketch of the vehicle. The teaser image shows a pickup truck with embossed bodywork, which is particularly noticeable on the bonnet and wheel arches.

"American" Amarok will get slim daytime running lights on the upper level and a luminous strip across the full width of the front bodywork. The main headlights will be located under this stripe.

The new model will be produced at the Pacheco plant in Argentina from 2027 and sold in South America. The existing Amarok on the Ford Ranger platform will continue to be produced in South Africa.

Thomas Schäfer, CEO of the Volkswagen brand, said the high localisation rate of the new Amarok means that the model "will be perfectly tailored to the specific needs of [VW] customers in this market".

All but the weakest unit are available with 4x4 all-wheel drive. A choice of 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic is offered.
