Trailseeker is the older and more powerful brother of the updated Subaru Solterra EV. Like the younger model, the novelty is developed together with Toyota, but the Japanese analogue of Trailseeker is not yet presented. Externally, the car resembles something between a station wagon and an SUV - largely due to the elongated proportions and angular design in the spirit of Solterra. The Trailseeker is about 1 inch (25 mm) taller and 6 inches (150 mm) longer than the junior model.
Output from the twin-engine powertrain is around 375 hp (280 kW), allowing acceleration from a standstill to 60 mph (96 km/h) in around 4.4 seconds. That's faster than the WRX STI and the current WRX TR, doing the same sprint in 5.6 seconds. This makes the Trailseeker the most dynamic production Subaru on the US market.
The 74.7 kWh battery provides more than 260 miles (418 km) of driving on a single charge. Like the Solterra, the Trailseeker retains 8.3 inches (211 mm) of ground clearance and supports charging via the NACS connector, which opens up access to the Tesla Supercharger network. Maximum towed trailer weight is 3,500 pounds (1,590 kg).
The X-Mode driving control system has Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud modes, as well as Grip Control and Downhill Assist Control features. The interior is almost identical to the Solterra, including a 14-inch touchscreen multimedia system display and two wireless smartphone chargers.
Subaru has yet to reveal all the Trailseeker's specifications - charging speeds, geometry and pricing remain unknown.
