Mercedes-Benz has unveiled a new version of the CLA with a longer wheelbase at the Auto Shanghai 2025 motor show. The model is called the CLA L and it is designed specifically for the Chinese market.

Like the standard CLA sedan, the new CLA L features the brand's signature styling, but measures 4,763 mm in length and has a wheelbase of 2,865 mm. Both figures have been increased by 40mm, making the CLA L longer than the C-Class, while the distance between the front and rear wheels is now the same.

As the focus is on the comfort of rear passengers, special rear seats have been developed for the CLA L with a 10 mm larger cushion for better leg support. The seat backs have also been made softer.

Mercedes did not go into technical details, but it is known that the CLA L gets: a 10.25-inch digital dashboard, a 14-inch multimedia screen and a 14-inch screen for the front passenger. All screens run on a localised version of the MB.OS operating system.

The MBUX voice assistant uses Chinese speakers and is based on ByteDance's DouBao artificial intelligence. The system is also equipped with navigation and a database adapted to China.

Specifications of the electric version:

  • 800-volt architecture
  • Electric motor on the rear axle
  • Output 272 hp (200 kW)
  • Up to 866 kilometres of driving range on the CLTC cycle
  • Fast charging: 320 kW power, +370 kilometres in 10 minutes

Mercedes claims the CLA L is the most efficient car in its class, with 93 per cent efficiency from battery to wheels. In tests, one of the prototypes managed to drive 1,071 kilometres on a single charge, demonstrating an energy consumption of just 8.26 kWh per 100 kilometres at constant speed.
