Hyundai has announced two small software updates that will make it much easier to drive electric cars around the US. No longer do you need to use separate apps for each network - a single MyHyundai is sufficient. Though you can continue to use a regular card-pay terminal if you want - as long as it works, of course.
The 2025 model year Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 9 models now come with Tesla's NACS (North American Charging Standard) connector from the factory and have access to thousands of Superchargers across the country. Hyundai's earlier electric cars also have access to this network - via a NACS-to-CCS adapter.
Using the app, you can now:
- Locate charging stations on these networks;
- navigate to them;
- start a charging session and monitor its progress;
- save bank cards for payment;
- send the route with the charging stations directly to the car's navigation.
Another important feature is Plug Charge, similar to Tesla's technology. All you need to do is simply plug in the cable and the system itself will recognise the car, initiate charging and make the payment. This makes the process a lot easier, especially on long routes.
Plug Charge currently only works at Tesla, ChargePoint, and Ionna stations. EVgo does not support this feature yet.
The updates only apply to the Ioniq lineup. The Kona Electric model has not yet received the new features, but Hyundai promises to rectify this situation later.
