The Mazda CX-5 crossover has changed generations for the first time since 2016, but the company decided not to radically change the design. In front, there are new headlights and a grille, as well as a larger air intake. To facilitate passenger entry and exit, the rear doors have been enlarged. Additionally, the trunk has become more spacious: its volume has increased to 583–2019 liters depending on the position of the second-row seat backs.
This has been achieved by increasing the dimensions: the length has grown to 4690 mm (+115 mm), width to 1860 mm (+15 mm), height to 1695 mm (+20 mm). The wheelbase has been stretched to 2815 mm. Depending on the equipment level, wheels from 17 to 19 inches are installed.
Inside, there is more space in the second row. Compared to previous generations, the interior is designed in a minimalist style: physical buttons have almost disappeared, and their functions have moved to a touchscreen.
In the top version, the crossover features a 15.6-inch media system display with Google services. Simpler versions come with a 12.9-inch display. Behind the new steering wheel is a dashboard with a diagonal of 10.25 inches. Additionally, the CX-5 received new, allegedly more comfortable seats.
In Europe, the new CX-5 received a 2.5-liter gasoline engine e-Skyactiv G, supplemented by a 24-volt mild hybrid system. The power of this powertrain is 141 hp, and the maximum torque is 238 Nm. The transmission is the same as before – a 6-speed automatic Skyactiv-Drive. The drive can be either front or all-wheel drive.
In the USA, the 2.5-liter engine will be more powerful: 190 hp and 251 Nm. Meanwhile, all-wheel drive is standard.
A more powerful power unit will have to wait until 2027. Then the Skyactiv-Z hybrid system will appear.
