One of the most recognizable cars from the Fast and Furious franchise sold at auction for £911,000 (approximately $1.2 million) at Bonhams.

This is a 1992 Mazda RX-7 FD, driven by Han played by Sung Kang in "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift" 2006.

It is believed to be one of the two original examples remaining after filming. The RX-7 features a rare VeilSide Fortune body kit from a Japanese tuning shop and was mainly used in static scenes and close-ups. Characteristic marks from camera mounts and the labeling "#71 HANS" remain on the body.

The body of this car is wider than the standard RX-7 by more than 20 cm, with only the roof and trunk lid remaining from the original elements. The RX-7 is painted in pearlescent orange and fitted with 19-inch Andrew Premier Series Racing Evolution 5 wheels shod with 305 mm wide Pirelli P Zero Nero tires at the rear.

Before the sale, the coupe underwent a comprehensive technical update: the rotary engine was completely rebuilt at RE-Amemiya workshop. The total mileage is 66,785 miles, of which only about 5,000 were driven after servicing. However, the car has mostly just been sitting recently.

The price of $1.2 million makes this RX-7 one of the most expensive cars in the franchise. For comparison, the 1994 Toyota Supra driven by Paul Walker was sold in 2021 for $550,000. However, the record is still held by his 2000 Nissan Skyline GT-R R34, which went under the hammer in 2023 for $1.35 million.
