Kia has unveiled a fully electric version of the Carens Clavis minivan. It is the company’s first electric vehicle completely manufactured in India.

The Kia Carens Clavis is designed with emerging markets in mind and is a logical extension of the gasoline version, which already looked like an EV due to its futuristic design.

As with the ICE version, the Carens Clavis EV retains sharp body lines and compact car proportions, but with several differences: a charging port has appeared at the front, the central air intake has been removed, the wheels have a more aerodynamic shape, and the panel, where traditional grilles would be, features ambient lighting.

Kia calls the Carens Clavis EV "an adventure-ready recreational vehicle with SUV traits." The interior is designed for seven and maintains a three-row layout with a body length of 4,550 mm. The instrument panel is implemented as a continuous digital screen that is 26.6 inches wide. Due to the absence of a classic transmission, the center console features a "floating" design with additional storage space.

Depending on the trim level, options include ventilated front seats, a Bose audio system with eight speakers, a panoramic roof, ambient lighting, and up to 20 driver assistance systems (including Level 2 autopilot). The second row features seats with "Boss Mode" and electric folding for easier access to the third row.

Technically, the Carens Clavis EV is based on the same platform as the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. The electric motor and battery are also borrowed from the Creta Electric.

Specifications:

  • Base version: battery 42 kWh, power 133 hp (99 kW), range according to the MIDC cycle - 404 km.
  • Long Range: battery 51.4 kWh, power 169 hp (126 kW), range - up to 490 km.

Both versions are equipped with liquid cooling for the battery, have dust and water protection for electronic components to IP67 standards, support bi-directional charging (V2L), and fast charging of up to 100 kW.

Prices in India are approximately $21,000-$28,600 equivalent. For comparison, the gasoline and diesel versions of the Carens Clavis cost $13,400-$25,100.
