According to the results of the first half of 2025, the American automaker lost its leadership to Volkswagen, experiencing a 33% drop in sales compared to the same period last year.
From January to June, Tesla sold 108,878 electric vehicles in the region, while Volkswagen sold 133,465 units - an increase of 78%. The gap of 24,587 cars allowed the German brand to confidently take first place among electric vehicle manufacturers in Europe.

In addition to Volkswagen, notable growth was shown by BMW, Skoda, and Renault. Skoda, in particular, was particularly successful, increasing its sales by 146% due to the popularity of the new Elroq models and the updated Enyaq. For Renault, the key driver was the Renault 5 hatchback.
In June, Tesla still led the European market in monthly sales, but this was not enough to maintain first place for the first half of the year. Moreover, among the five leading brands, only Tesla demonstrated a decline in June - by 21% (32,605 vehicles). Volkswagen added 9% in the same month, BMW - 16%, Skoda - 189%, Renault - 23%.
Overall, the electric vehicle market in Europe grew by 24% in the first half of 2025 - from 944,858 to 1,177,051 sold vehicles. Among the most popular models remain the Tesla Model Y, Model 3, as well as the Volkswagen ID.4, ID.7, and ID.3.
