Tesla recently unveiled the updated Model Y Performance and didn’t even mention that the fastest version of the crossover now comes factory-equipped with Launch Control.

Like the Model 3 Performance sedan, the crossover features two electric motors and all-wheel drive. Acceleration from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) takes 3.3 seconds, up to 100 km/h - 3.5 seconds.

Although the official announcement from Tesla did not mention launch control, photos published on Reddit from the dealership showed an instruction on the car’s screen which included, among other things, Launch Mode. The name is slightly different, but it doesn’t change the essence, as this is indeed launch control.

Launch Mode

To activate it, the driver needs to press the brake with their left foot and simultaneously press the accelerator fully with their right foot. A message reading "Launch Mode enabled" will appear on the display, after which, when the brake is released, the vehicle will launch with maximum efficiency. Tesla warns that the mode is intended for tracks and surfaces with good traction.

Currently, Launch Mode is only available in the Model Y Performance. However, given that the company regularly expands functionality through "over-the-air" updates, it is possible that the system will later also appear in the Model 3 Performance.
